As you all probably have heard, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson's breakup was a heart ache for many of their fans.  The hit mtv show Newlyweds, brought much success to the not yet successful Jessica Simpson.  While during the show, it seemed that Nick and Jessica got along despite some money differences, and their marriage was going strong.

But, on Thanksgiving, the seperation of the stars was publically announced.  Now, Nick is speaking out in numerous interviews both television and print, telling the media that he was told his marriage was over.

Now, for advid fans like myself, the initial breakup of the Nick and Jessica duo was heart-renching.  The devestation that the famous couple had split was just not believable at first, but as the news started to spread, it had to be true.

Nick who was not as popular as Jessica, has since made the best of the break-up.  He has released his new hit single "Whats Left of Me" on his CD "Whats Left of Me" and has caught the attention of millions.

Former Jessica fans have now turned to Nick!

Know yourself

CBS6News reported a story about patient medication safety tips from Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.  In the case of an emergency, it is extremely important for a health care professional to know your medical history to better treat you in a prompt and efficent manner.

If you have your information memorized, you can be cared for faster.  I have personally been effected by this situation.  My grandmother was very ill and rushed to the hospital by ambulance many different times.  She luckily had all of her medications that she was currently taking written down on a piece of paper that she kept in her pocket, or right by her side.  This helped immensly in her medical care.

Ellis Hospital urges people to make a list of their medications in case of an emergency.

Pataki “almost tore his stiches out”

April 26, 2006 at 9:33 pm | Posted in Sports | 1 Comment

Governor Pataki hosted the UAlbany basketball team to lunch at the Governors mansion on Tuesday afternoon. He was in the hospital recooperating from surgery when the Great Danes took on the top seeded UConn Huskies in the first round of NCAA tournament action. The Governor said that he “nearly tore his stiches out cheering for them.”

Pataki and the team shot a few hoops after lunch, in which the Governor took a few practice shots before hitting his first field goal.

I think that the invitation to the Mens Basketball team was greatly appreciated and well worth it for the team. They have gotten many opportunities to meet and greet their fans, and this was an extra special one. All the major media outlets covered the event.

Its Spring, right?

March 23, 2006 at 1:09 am | Posted in Weather | 1 Comment

Just a few weeks ago I remember saying to myself, wow it’s still winter and it is actually sunny and warm out.  Now that it is spring, the weather is chilly.  Although we had a record breaking warmness in the Capital District this winter, I am still wondering where the sun and warmth is now.  When can I put my boots away and start to walk in flip flops?  I am sick of wearing turtlenecks everyday!  Hopefully in the upsoming days, we will see some sun and feel the heat in Albany!  Weather in Albany.

Jessica, Prison Break, Olympics

March 13, 2006 at 11:06 pm | Posted in Photo Gallery | 1 Comment

With or without Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson will still be a star.  Sometimes when I need a quick style tip I turn to Jessica Simpsons photo gallery.  Included in these photos are bad hair days, good hair days, and great fashion ideas coordinated by her outfits.  Ever since Newlyweds, I have been infactuated with Jessica Simpson.  I have all of her cd’s, concert dvd, and every episode of Newlyweds.  I even bought Dukes of Hazzard, the day it came out!  Although many rumors are swarming about Jessica Simpson, she will always be my favorite!

Now onto a hit show on Fox, Prison Break.  I was in class one day and overheard a few other students ranting and raving about this hit television series, so that night I went home and decided to check out for myself, and boy was I hooked.  I couldn’t wait until the next week to see what was going to happen.  For those of you who don’t know about Prison Break, you should definately check it out, I’m not going to give anything away.  The season of Prison Break will start up again on Monday March 20th at 8pm.

Even though the 2006 Winter Olympics have come to a close, I still like to reminse the moments, and thats why I check out the photo gallery of the Olympics.  You can check out any sport, and any athlete in action.  I am big into sports, and wasn’t able to catch all of the events and ceremonies, so this makes it convenient for me to look at the photos and still have a sense that I didn’t miss anything.

Bush faces Katrina

March 2, 2006 at 3:32 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Controversery now lays between whether or not the Presdient was warned about Hurricane Katrina.  Was enough preparation for the storm done?  Were residents given the option to evacuate to a safer place?  These questions all remain unanswered, but now the people want to know.

The Times Union reported on this story, uncovering what the Associated Press revealed about the whole process.  The President did not only receive one breifing, like it was portrayed, but he received multiple briefings.  He knew everything there was to know at all times.

So then why is there still so much damage left behind?  The President didn’t take the necessary steps in providing a safe place for residents, and some say underestimated the strengh of Katrina.

Now that the Presidents preparation techniques, or lack there of, and briefings are out in the open, residents of the hit areas want to know why nothing was done.  What was the procatination for?  They will continue asking their questions, and demand for answers until they hear what they want to hear.

Mardi Gras a bust?

February 28, 2006 at 4:18 pm | Posted in Entertainment | 1 Comment

While today is Fat Tuesday as some call it, Mardi Gras is underway in New Orleans, and some people are not too pleased about it.

One former resident of New Orleans is still not able to move back there and pick up his life as he left it.  He and a few otheres find themselves angry and upset that tourists and other residents are celebrating Fat Tuesday in a city that should be uder major construction.  “With them putting on Mardi Gras, without still having not addressed the basic human needs in this city, why that’s just a slap in the face,” he said.

Others, say they wish they were there and miss the parades, and all they hype that always came along with the Mardi Gras celebration.

Until now, the streets are packed, but not nearly as much as before, and the people will be celebrating.  For what though, is the question of some.

U.S. Journalist running out of time

February 15, 2006 at 9:51 pm | Posted in World News | 1 Comment

As we all know, U.S. Journalist Jill Carroll has been kidnapped by the Iraqis.  She still fights for her life, not knowing what the result will be.

According to the Albany Times Union, video tapes have been released that show Carroll alive and well, yet there is an expiration of time that is becoming closer and closer.  Iraqis say that if the U.S. doesn’t cooperate with them, and fails to release all women Iraqi prisioners by February 28th, time is up for Jill Carroll.

With only being able to see her daughter, Mary Beth Carroll, Jills mother, relays a message of her own back to Iraq.  With an Iraqi voice-over, she insists that he daughter be set free.  She says that Jill is a young journalist who worked hard to publicize the suffering of Iraqis.   But without actually seeing and hearing her daughter, the Carroll’s have to rely on praying and the faith in their country that they do the right thing.

For now, I think that we should keep close attention focused on this plea for release.  The scheduled date for any advancements, positivie or negative, is set to happen on or before February 28th.  With little information to base facts on right now, we just have to wait and see what happens.

Waterpark in the Winter

February 8, 2006 at 5:26 pm | Posted in Business | 1 Comment

Summer is alive and well at the new Six Flas Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark.  It is perfect to swim, slide, and splash around in the tropical 80 degree water.

This new hotel and waterpark is located in Lake George right across the street from the Great Escape.  In order to go to the waterpark though, you must be a guest at the hotel.  Other attractions in the Lodge include big rooms, a spa and fitness center, and mulitple restaurants to dine in.

I think that this hotel and waterpark was an excellent idea.  Because we live in the northeast and usually see a lot of cold weather and snow, it is nice to know that for a few days, you are able to get away from it all and experience summer.

From the business aspect, many new jobs were created, and the location is perfect.  Most tourists travel through Lake George in the summer time, however now there is a reason to swing through in the winter season.  The $43 million dollar business is four stories high with 200 guest rooms.  They also plan to build a $2 million bridge that crosses route 9, connecting the Great Escape to the new Lodge.

The opening of the new Lodge and Indoor Waterpark was on Tuesday.  Many different media sources attended the event.  Here are some links to other stories.  http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=448334&category=BUSINESS&BCCode=&newsdate=2/8/2006

Golisano Not Running for Governor

February 1, 2006 at 9:10 pm | Posted in Local News, Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Rochester billionaire Thomas Golisano says he’s not running for governor of New York this year.  The announcement ends months of speculation that Golisano would make a run for governor as a Republican after three unsuccessful gubernatorial campaigns as the candidate of the Independence Party.

In a statement released by his office, Golisano says he won’t seek the Republican, Conservative, or Independent Party nominations for Governor in 2006.

Although Golisano has lost four straight elections, and three of them to Governor George Pataki in 1994, 1998, and 2002, Pataki says he isn’t running for another term either, which would perhaps give Golisano a better position in the campaign.  However, I do think that he has made a good choice in not running for his fourth straight year.  It must be somewhat of a disappointment to not walk away victorious.
